USMC SGT. TOVET
Marine Sergeant Stephen Tovet (Ret) enlisted in the Marines in June 2006 and was deployed to Iraq in 2007. He was subsequently deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 where he was wounded from an IED blast while on patrol on May 30, 2011. The explosion severely injured his left leg, left hand, and right lower leg. The injuries put him into a coma for about a week. He was transferred to the Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany; then to the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland for the required amputation of his left leg above the knee, part of his left hand, and subsequent surgical reconstruction of his left hand, right leg, ankle and foot followed by further treatment and rehabilitation. Sgt. Tovet was born in Orlando, Florida and grew up in Apopka. Stephen and Krystina were High School sweethearts and attended Apopka High School together. They were married in a small ceremony at the Apopka Courthouse in 2010 when Stephen was on leave and reconfirmed their wedding vows in 2012 in a larger ceremony after Stephen completed his rehabilitation. Central Florida is where they grew up and wish to make their home. A "disability friendly" house has been built for them in Southwest Orange County. Future plans call for raising a family and starting a firearms business.
